February 2, 2012 (TORONTO) – TMX Group Inc. today announced January 2012 trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges – Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange (MX) and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX), as well as TMX Select, TMX Group's alternative trading system.

Highlights

Trading volume on Toronto Stock Exchange increased 7% from December 2011, though it was down 20% compared to January 2011. Transactions were up both from the previous month and from January 2011, with increases of 4% and 1% respectively.

TSX Venture Exchange experienced a 10% increase in trading volume compared to December 2011, though was down 44% compared to January 2011. Transactions were up 15% compared to the previous month, though fell 36% from January 2011.

Volume on MX was up 15% compared to December 2011 and increased 21% from January 2011. Open interest contracts at the end of January 2012 fell 3% from the end of December 2011, though increased 28% compared to the end of January 2011.

Trading and clearing volume on NGX was down 14% in January 2012 from December 2011, and was down 17% compared to January 2011.
